In the T20I series against New Zealand, Hardik Pandya received praise from Aakash Chopra for using the sixth bowler.

The first game in the series was postponed due to weather, and the third game resulted in a tie using the DLS technique, giving the Men in Blue a 1-0 victory.

India had earlier triumphed by 65 runs in the second game. "I appreciated that Hardik Pandya employed Deepak Hooda as his captain, something Rohit Sharma did not do. Venkatesh Iyer wasn't bowled by Rohit, therefore... In contrast to Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, Rohit does not utilise the sixth bowler for India.

Chopra emphasised that, in contrast to Rohit, Hardik was eager to use Hooda.

"Hardik employed Hooda instead of bowling himself. At the end of the game and during power play overs, he can bowl him. He can bowl in the middle overs as well.

In the second T20I against the Kane Williamson-led team, Hooda claimed 4 wickets.
